Kauri BayBoomrock venue review

By a wedding photographer

So Kauri Bay is one of my absolute favourites I’m here to break down to you the 5 reasons why.

First things first here is some informative things you will need to know about the venue:

The venue is located in Clevedon, just 45 minutes from Auckland City, but it feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of the big smoke. It boasts stunning views of the surrounding countryside and eastern coastlines, including the famous Clevedon Oyster farm (you can even have Clevedon Oysters delivered as canapes on your wedding day). Kauri Bay can accommodate up to 200 guests, making it a great choice for weddings of various sizes.

1.Location

Situated a top of the farm land looking east, Kauri Bay Boomrock has the location nailed. A modern indoor barn style reception with high ceilings and beams, ready for your styling and personal touches. The lawn looks out onto the east Coast of Clevedon, rolling hills all the way to the ocean. Its quite spectacular. Locations for photos are plenty with the surrounding farm land and rolling hills (all available by 4WD hire) as well as the modern concrete wall, Oak tree lined gravel road and the very top of the hill by the Trig (this is where the sunset magic happens) so its safe to say you are spoilt for photo spots that you don’t have to travel for. Meaning more time to party!

2. Getting Ready

While getting ready onsite is limited, the options of gorgeous Air BnB’s in the area are stunning. Here are a few for your eyes to feast on:

Hololio House (also an amazing wedding venue)

La Maison Villa

Paradise Trophy Estate

Private Peninsula

3.Wet Weather Option

So the summer of 2023 kinda blew and it threw a lot of spanner in the works for so many couples planning an outdoor day. It is so important to choose a venue that has a functional and beautiful wet weather option cause you just never know what you’re going to get. Kauri Bay have a sweet little spot just in front of the fireplace and I really love the light in here. You wont be getting the views, but its cosy and cute and photographically, it works like a charm.

4. Amazing SUNSETS

I really don’t know anywhere else that offers 360 views quite like Kauri Bay and you know what, every time its been a cloudy day or its rained, somehow by some wedding magic once you are up the hill, the sun makes an appearance and comes through with that golden light. Even if it didn’t though, the backdrop is second to none. One of the best parts is, its 5 minutes up a hill from your reception, like its right there you know what I mean! 10/10

5.Look and Feel

The look and feel of Kauri Bay is Modern, elegant and slightly rustic which caters to our laid back kiwi nature. The decor is sophisticated, with neutral tones and minimalist design, allowing you to add your own personal touches to make the space truly yours. The venue also has plenty of natural light and stunning views, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that's perfect for your wedding.
